Anymore when I go to church(with the wife), I look around and think how pathetic it is. The wife is TBM and whenever I bring up church history she SCREAMS "I don't know, I wasn't there, I don't care... the church is true". Strangely, when she blows up about this, she usually comes back within the hour very lovey dovey. I am looking at how to phase out and keep the family intact. I DONT WANT MY POSTERITY TO HAVE THE S**T SCARED OUT OF THEM AS I WAS. I do miss the assurance of an afterlife, validity of eternal families, celestial kingdom, etc. I want them to be true, but can't see how they can be, given the mountain of evidence, and the character of the "revelators" who restored these "truths".
I went through such a similar thing. My wife held on to the JWs because of the emotion, I was sad in loosing the 'security' I thought I had. Eventually she opened up and we both left the JWs togeather.
Giver her time, it will work out.
Thanks so much for sharing your story. -

JW's don't have an equivalent of the Fast and Testimony meeting.
I do think their "theocratic school and service meeting" is kind of similar. There are certain points where the audience is encouraged to share stories of the field ministry and such. But it is not a weekly thing, only appearing as part of the program from time to time. From what I understand the Fast and Testimony meeting can be a bit more casual and emotional, while the JWs are pretty dry in the way they go about it.

Will the GB get rid of the WBTS?
by jefferywhat inthis is an out there discussion, and probably running a little ahead of the organisation but.....
ever since rutherford took charge, the organisation has over shadowed the actual "hands on" worship, i.e.
in one year alone, it was pointed out on this forum, if a witness read all of the literature and the bible as prescribed, it would be like 120 pages of the bible and over 3000 pages of watchtower printed material.

Anyway, when we look at the various power struggles between the GB(FDS) and The WBTS over the last century, is it possible that the FDS will cease to use the WBTS as its legal tool and replace it?
The entire concept of a FDS is totally without basis, it is an illusion.
Each of the various "power struggles" that have taken place inside the WTS are done and over with. In the 1910's there where various members fighting for control of the Watchtower and Rutherford won, plain and simple.
Eventually there was a struggle between the Societies President and the Governing Body. This naturally was going to happen being that the previous presidents where quite powerful but Knorr created an atmosphere where the role of the President was diminished. Franz didn't like the effects of this and tried to stop it, but he couldn't do it. Eventually the Governing Body gained full control.
And this is where it will stay, the GB has full control and there really is no way it can be taken from them. The End. -

my mother is a JW and her brother is a Mormon.
Now there is the plot to a new hit sitcom if i've ever heard one. I can see it now...
"He's a Mormon, she's a Jehovah's Witness. Now this 'brother and sister' team have to work together in raising their long lost nephew. Can they make it happen? Find out on a brand new episode of 'Knocked Around' " -

Many of us forget that when you are in the JWs you do get something from it, even if it is not that much.
The Watchtower can bring people a number of differant things. It gives you the feeling that you know what most people see as unknowable. It gives you security, pride, a superior feeling, control, direction, and much more.
While much of what the WTS gives a person comes down to the fulfillment of selfish desires, I don't think we should be to hard on those stuck in the mindset. Many of us where in the same position and fought the idea of letting go because we loved the little we received from it. -

Why do they need to be a corporation?
by bluesapphire insince it is illegal for a corporation to have any social interests (a social corporation is an oxymoron), and since the entire purpose of a corporation is to make money for its shareholders, why do they need to be a coroporation to spread the "good news"?.
do the shareholders amass wealth?
are they allowed to sell their stock?.

from wikipedia:
A corporation is an artificial legal entity (technically, a juristic person) which, while made up of a number of natural persons or other legal entities, has a separate legal identity from them.

An excellent article on "The Exile"
by Doug Mason ini believe that the exile and the ultimate destruction of the temple at jerusalem by the babylonians must be understood in the context of the destruction of israel, the long and evil reign of manassah and the subsequent kings, particularly zedekiah.. the 70 years of servitude by the nations, including judah, to babylon would see its fulfillment, and did not require the destruction of the jerusalem or its temple.
that happened because the evil and depraved nation of judah steadfastly refused to heed the lord to willingly serve babylon.. i located an excellent article on topic this at:.

Does the WTS really know the difference between apostate and antichrist?
by RULES & REGULATIONS in1 john 2:18-19 "children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; from this we know that it is the last hour.
they went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us.
how many times did we read this passage?

Their logic follows this way:
Jesus chose the Watchtower as his representative. Therefore anybody against the Watchtower is an Anit-Christ.
